8th International Mining History Congress

Travel information

Delegates from outside of the UK should arrive at London Heathrow and take the rail link ‘Heathrow Express' to Paddington Station in London (approx. 30 minutes). From there, take the direct rail service to Redruth (approx. 4 hours). There is an overnight rail service available. From the station it is a ten minute walk to the hotel, though with luggage it would be convenient to take a taxi.

Further information about rail and coach travel within the UK is available from the following websites:

National Express Coaches

National Express serves Cornwall from destinations throughout the UK. London Victoria Train Station and Heathrow Airport offer six services every day to Cornwall. Coaches travel to St Austell, Truro, Newquay, Falmouth, St Ives and Penzance.

Newquay Airport

Newquay Airport is nearby and links Cornwall to major cities across the country as well as internationally. S
ervices and budget fares are somewhat limited though.

Those wishing to rent a car at Heathrow and drive to Redruth should allow five hours drive time. The roads to Cornwall are generally of a good freeway standard but once in the county, driving on smaller secondary roads, which are narrow and two-way, can be very challenging. Those wishing to rent cars should be aware that in Britain they are usually not automatic and are right-hand drive. Petrol currently costs around $10 a gallon.
