8th International Mining History Congress
Background and aims
The
International Mining History Congress aims to bring together
practitioners of mining history in all of its forms – archaeological,
economic, environmental and health, social, technical – to exchange
recent research findings and stimulate contact and collaboration across
national and regional boundaries.
Mining was, and is, one of the most international of industries, with a
shared technology, multinational finance, and a highly mobile manual and
professional work force. Like previous meetings of the Congress, this
conference will ensure that the history of the industry will continue to
be considered in an international context and that the various branches
of the discipline remain connected and enjoy a cross-fertilisation of
ideas.
Past Congresses have attracted a wide spectrum of professionals from the
public and private sectors – such as academics, archivists,
environmentalist, geologists, museum curators, and current industry
executives – as well as local historians and others interested in
regional and industrial heritage.
