This memorial to Cornish inventor Richard Trevithick shows the engineer holding a model of his pioneering steam road car of 1801. Trevithick is also credited with the first use of high-pressure steam in mine pumping and other important developments such as the introduction of the fuel-efficient Cornish boiler.
